Husna Begum

Husna Begum (48) has been a widow for the past five years, and struggles to provide for her three orphaned children, Rabia (14), Amjad (12), and Salman (10).  Working as a house maid earning a meager 500 Rs per month (approx. $8/month), her family is barely scraping by.  Husna and her children live in a home that consists of two deteriorating rooms.  The roof is in such awful condition that she fears that it may fall over her children at any moment while they may be sleeping.  All three children are fortunate enough to be in school and attend classes regularly.  They all dream of one day attending a university, but due to a life of poverty that would not likely come true.
