Disaster Relief Update: Pakistan Flood:
With
the Blessings of Allah (swt) and your support, Hidaya Foundation has
been able to provide assistance to thousands and thousands of families
whose lives have been devastated by the severe flooding in Pakistan. In
the initial emergency relief phase, Hidaya has been distributing aid in
the form of food, clothing, and shelter.
Since the floods in August 2010, Hidaya has sent 56 ocean-freight containers. Of these 40ft. containers:
· 40 have already been distributed.
· 10 are at Hidaya’s warehouse in Pakistan and will be distributed within in the next few days.
· 1 just arrived at the port in Pakistan and will be cleared through customs.
· 5 are currently in transit via ocean freight.
On
average, each container provides 8-10 pieces of winter clothing (such
as jackets, sweaters, etc.) to 4,500 families. The 40 containers that
have been distributed thus far were given to approximately 180,000
families in flood affected areas of Balochistan, Punjab, and Sindh
Provinces.
Hidaya Foundation has also been distributing tents
(over 1,000 distributed thus far) to families and village communities so
they may find some shelter from the bitter cold. Since the beginning of
the disaster, Hidaya has also distributed over 60 tons of fruit, 35
tons of cooked food, 193 tons of dry ration, and 1.7 million liters of
drinking water. Over 1,500 shares of Qurbani/Udhiyah meat was also
distributed in flood affected areas along with the installation of Water
Hand Pumps for Clean Drinking Water.
